Recognition

Backside Archway was selected for the 2025 MACC Biennial at Schaefer International Gallery, one of 44 works chosen from nearly 400 Hawaii artists. Emily's paintings can be seen in person at Maui Hands gallery, and every Saturday she teaches art classes at Sabado Gallery.

Painted from the Trail

Every painting begins as a sketch made on location, on the Kalalau Trail, at a Maui beach, or looking out over a valley on Kauai. Back in the studio, Emily Lanius pours acrylic paint onto the canvas and swirls it into fine detail with toothpicks instead of brushes. Each piece carries the feeling of that place: gratitude, surrender, and the sacred beauty of the islands.
