This painting shows the beautiful yet fearful power of the Ocean. It is a celebration of Maui’s beauty, as well as an honor to Colorado, where I lived previously. Upon closer observation, the rock in the water is also a bear. Just like a bear, the ocean is a beautiful force to be revered and admired, but not reckoned with.
This painting was featured in the MACC Biennial in 2025 at Schaefer International Gallery on Maui. It was one of 44 artworks selected from a statewide open call of nearly 400 artists in Hawaii by guest juror Elissa Auther from the Museum of Arts and Design in NYC.
